Celebrating Emily Dickinson in Song, December 12 @ Timucua Arts in Orlando

Celebrate the birthday of one of America’s most revered literary icons with an evening of vocal artistry that bridges 19th-century poetry and contemporary music. Presented by the Central Florida Composers Forum, Celebrating Emily Dickinson in Song brings Dickinson’s transcendent, secretive, and deeply passionate verse into vivid focus through new musical settings by four prominent regional composers.
Set in the intimate acoustic space of the Timucua Arts Foundation, this concert weaves together Dickinson’s quiet intensity, from the resolute hope that “perches in the soul” to the frenetic carriage ride where Death “kindly stopped for me” with rich, original modern art song. Two of Central Florida’s premier classical artists will bring the program to life: soprano Jenna Toler and collaborative pianist Kristine Griffin.
Whether you are a devoted reader of Dickinson’s poetry or a champion of living composers and regional new music, or better yet, if you’re curious to hear how those things come together, please join us for a moving performance exploring the beauty, mystery, existential depth, and enduring humanity of Dickinson’s legacy.
