Mari Valderrama

Mari Valderrama is a Colombian-American composer based in Orlando. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, they are an emerging young composer in the Central Florida area. Mari is a graduate from Stetson University with a BM in Performance and Theory and is currently working on getting their MA in Music Composition from UCF.
They have participated in a variety of summer programs and festivals throughout the country, including Summer at Eastman, the Longy Divergent Studio, and the Berklee Film, TV, and Game Scoring Program. Their music has been premiered and played throughout the country by several ensembles, including the Stetson University Chamber Orchestra, the Maitland Symphony Orchestra, and the Divergent Trio. As a performer, Valderrama has performed with the Bogota Pre-Youth Philharmonic, the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Stetson University Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, and was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Florida Keys International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall.
Valderrama’s music is characterized by portraying stories through a simple yet rich soundscape. From comedy to tragedy, their music transmits the many colors that stories evoke. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, their music seeks to convey what words cannot. Further in their career, they hope to write music for multimedia, specifically movies and TV.
