The phrase “folding in” can be understood both literally (objects being pushed together) and figuratively (ideas incorporated into a whole), and both definitions are expressed in this piece. Throughout the work, there are notes that are very close together that collapse in to a common center, as if by gravity—slight expansion followed by inevitable contraction. In the other sense of “folding in,” I incorporate elements of several different styles and aesthetics that have influenced my music. In the largest sense, the piece expands from order to slightly controlled chaos and folds back in to order.
